Farm Profile

Bruan Poll Dorsets are situated in the south west Victorian corner between Hamilton and Heywood 10 kms west of the Henty Highway.

Average annual rainfall - 750mm

Bruan Poll Dorsets are run under commercial conditions along side our commercial first cross ewe and beef cattle enterprise on approximately 500 ha.

3500 first cross ewes are joined annually using new genetics sourced from our stud ram lambs and lambed down in July and August. Selling of lambs starts in December with heavy suckers and trades, carry over lambs that do not meet the grid are shorn mid January and placed on a summer crop and/or in our property based feedlot. Feedlot lambs are turned off in the shortest possible time -4 to 5 weeks - with average daily weight gains of 350 to 500 grams per day. The majority of the lamb drop is hooked with averages over the last four years for suckers 21.8 kg and shorn lambs 22.5 kg. The beef cattle enterprise consists of F1 cattle and vealers are turned off before 12 months of age.

Our fire map reference no is 47 2 E 10
