The Stud was founded by the Russell family in the Wimmera district of
Victoria in 1956. Using a strong influence of top sires from Valma Poll
Dorset Stud in Tasmania. They registered as Flock 48 under the name Yenong
Poll Dorset Stud.
In 1979 the present owners Doug & Robyn Russell and their children
Hugh & Katherine took on ownership of the Stud , changing the name
to "Banyenong West", and using the top genetics available in
Australia. The Stud uses performance recording (Lambplan) together with
the Show Ring, to produce sheep that continue to improve breed standards
and commercial attributes for the prime lamb industry.
The Stud continues to take out Champion ribbons at all major Victorian
shows, including Melbourne Royal, Hamilton "Sheepvention" and
"Australian Sheep & Wool Show" in Bendigo. Stud Rams and
Ewes are sold to all states of Australia.
At the Annual on Property Sale, stud sheep are sold to all states with
flock rams being sought after by breeders for their high growth rate and
exceptional muscling.
