Welcome to the Kennedy Creek Poll Dorset stud web
site.

The Kennedy Creek Poll Dorset stud is a family owned
farm located near Benalla, in northeast Victoria. The stud flock
averages 350 ewes, with ewe weaners (pictured above) joined to lamb
each year as well, producing a total of up to 500 progeny each year.
There are up to 160 rams available for sale each year. The stud
regularly sources high quality genetics from other studs (see stud
sires).
Dick Barber, who started the stud in 1968 is the
owner of the stud and is helped on a part time basis by his sons
Andrew and Stuart, with their wives Sally and Liz.
The aim of the stud is to produce rams that will
perform well for Kennedy Creek Poll Dorset Stud clients. This requires
that rams have good conformation to enhance their longevity while
having outstanding performance to improve farm returns. The breeding
program aims for rams that are above average for growth (currently
PWWT >8), average for fat and having good muscling. A range of
rams are produced to suit multiple markets from a terminal cross
over Merino ewes for the domestic market ; to rams suitable for
the export trade from first cross ewes.
These objectives are achieved utilising the national
genetic performance recording system Lambplan, in conjunction with
selection of rams that meet conformation specifications, along with
trueness to Poll Dorset type with open faces and Dorset type wool.
