FARM
The Kennedy Creek Poll Dorset stud is located on the property
Wyambi. This property was purchased by the Barber family
in the 1940s and has been held by the family since then. The
total area farmed is about 160 hectares and is composed of two properties.
The properties are located approximately 10 kilometres from Benalla
in a 670mm rainfall zone. While previously the family ran a first
cross ewe flock (until the late 1980s) and a commercial cattle
herd in combination with the stud, the only animals run on Wyambi
now are the stud Poll Dorset sheep. While cattle trading continues,
no sheep trading is done to avoid risks of disease introduction
(footrot, JD, lice etc).
The property is located on Kennedy Lane a
reflection on the Kennedy family owning the farm house in the 1800s
and early 1900s. The farm is located in the heart of Kelly
country, also known as the region for legends, wine and the
high country.
