HISTORY

The Kennedy Creek Poll Dorset stud commenced as the Kelfeera Poll Dorset stud in 1968 as flock number 1415 in the Poll Dorset register (http://www.polldorset.org.au/_asn/Flock_Register.htm). It changed its name in 2006 to Kennedy Creek Poll Dorset stud to reflect both the heritage of the property and the local environment where the rams are produced. Kennedy Creek is the annual creek that flows through “Wyambi” (the name of the home property where the stud is located). The property has been involved in local Landcare since inception and decided a name change was appropriate to reflect this.

The genetics of the flock has been advanced by using sires from several studs including Derrynock, Kurralea, Wyndamah, Rannoch, Ivadene, Kentish Downs (shown below) and others. Rams are purchased from other studs most years to ensure that genetic diversity is maintained and to introduce favourable genetics. The ewe flock started in 1968 with ewes purchased from Mirnoo Poll Dorset stud.
