About UsAn accelerating processOur family’s long involvement in sheep breeding has given us considerable experience in comparing different Poll Dorset bloodlines under our own farm conditions. This trial process has now thankfully been short-circuited by Across-Flock Lambplan, which effectively takes away the camouflage of heavier feeding and skillful show preparation. The family have always supported the widespread use of the best available genes in the breed. In the early days, LA Stuart OBE lent foundation sires to Allendale, Lindsbury and Kelso for trial and promotion of the breed. Keith and Anne McLauchlan supported Meat Elite with ewes and a ram. More recently some of our rams have participated in the Sheep CRC which is the largest sheep industry research project ever undertaken in Australia. Across-flock Lambplan provides all Australian Breeders with good information on most leading studs. When used as a tool in conjunction with visual appraisal, Lambplan becomes a wonderful asset. Our progressive breeding programme blends our selection of the best bloodlines in Australia and New Zealand. Our large data bank of performance records have high accuracy and repeatability. We regularly throw in new, untested sires of championship merit and some contribute very well. Each year we benchmark our progress against the Nation’s top proven high-index, high accuracy sires. This allows the introduction of new blood at the highest level. Leading Breeders Using McLauchlan Poll DorsetsIn keeping with modern prime lamb industry requirements we use Lambplan to carefully monitor growth rate, eye muscle, and fat cover in our sheep. We have strictly adhered to Poll Dorset breed type and have developed clear faced, long bodied strains with structural soundness and high performance figures.
We greatly value the confidence leading Australian breeders continue to place in our stock. 2009: Valma and Rannoch stud ram sales achieved a top of $18,000 with 16 stud rams averaging just under $4000. Many of the nation’s leading breeders again purchased from us. 2010: Stud rams were sold to studs in 5 Australian states. These included Rannoch 199-09 being purchased by Aberdeen Stud, Wagga for $11,000 and Rannoch 182-09 by the Douglas Family of Abelene Park Stud at Tamworth for $9500.
